This traditional Cruz de Malta yerba is composed of leaves and stems (con palo).

It is a rather sweet yerba, with little astringency, very easy to prepare and is therefore well suited to those who do not yet know mate very well. It is one of the oldest brands of yerba mate: it has existed since 1874.

The Cruz de Malta brand is now owned by the Molinos company, which also produces the Nobleza Gaucha.

In 2018, Molinos changed the formulation of Cruz de Malta: the grind of the leaves became larger, and the content of ground leaves (powder) decreased. This makes it a smoother, longer-lasting yerba.
